Amitabh Bachchan, Indian Actor

Amitabh Bachchan is an Indian film actor and made an era in Bollywood. He gained popularity as the ‘Angry Young Man’. He is the biggest star in the history of the Indian Film Industry.

Amitabh Bachchan, also known as Amitabh Harivansh Rai Bachchan is arguably the biggest star in the history of the Indian Film Industry, better known as Bollywood.

Amitabh Bachchan is an Indian film-actor who was named "Superstar of the Millennium" by the BBC. Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942 in the city of Allahabad, India. His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a well-known poet.

Early Life of Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan attended Allahabad's Boys' High School, followed by Nainital's Sherwood College, where he gained a degree in arts. He later went on to Delhi University earning a degree in science.

Film Career of Amitabh Bachchan
Bachchan's first film, Saat Hindustani - his only black-and-white film - was released in 1969. In 1990 he regained some success with his power-packed performance in Agneepath and the following year he starred in Hum which was a huge hit.
His films such as Major Saab, Sooryavansham, and Laal Baadhshah are worthy to notice.
In 2005, he appeared in the film Black, in which he played the teacher of a deaf and blind woman played by Rani Mukherjee went on to be a massive hit. And more importantly re-affirmed his tremendous acting ability.
In the same year he co-starred with his son Abhishek in the films Bunty Aur Babli and Sarkar both of which were hits at the box office. He is once again appeared with Abhishek in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna which released in 2006.
He showed his tremendous acting ability in the film Paa in 2009.
Bachchan gained huge popularity hosting 'Kaun
Banega Crorepati' a quiz show in the year 2000. The show was a hit. Currently he is hosting the show for Sony TV.

Amitabh Bachchan is also set to appear in a remake of his own 1975 blockbuster Sholay and will play the role of Gabbar Singh, a role that was made famous by Amjad Khan in the original
Bachchan is known for his deep, baritone voice. He has been a narrator, a playback singer and presenter for numerous programmes.

Personal Life of Amitabh Bachchan : Amitabh Bachchan is married to actress Jaya Bhaduri (now Bachchan). The couple have two children: daughter Shweta and son Abhishek.

Abhishek Bachchan has also entered the Bollywood film industry and is married to Aishwarya Rai. Amitabh has two grandchildren: Navya Naveli and Agastya Nanda.

Japa Yoga or Japa Meditation refers to a particular form of yoga, where reciting a specific mantra whilst concentrating is the basic crux.

Vijayadashami, Indian Festival

The festival is celebrated on the tenth day of Navaratri, which is held on the tenth day of the month of Ashvin of the Hindu calendar. Also known as Dusshera, the Hindu festival of Vijayadashami usually marks the end of Durga Puja or Ramlila.

Etymology of Vijayadashami
The word Vijayadashami is a combination of 2 words, Vijaya meaning victory
and Dashami meaning tenth.

Legend of Vijayadashami
In various versions, the festival of Vijayadashami has mentions in Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata.

In Ramayana, celebration of the victory of Lord Rama of him rescuing his wife, Sita and destroying Ravana, in a fierce battle serves to be the back story behind Vijayadashami or Dussehra.

In Mahabharata, the Pandavas were exiled for 12 years and then one more year in disguises.  It was on the day of Vijayadashami that the Pandavas successfully completed the remaining one year. Arjuna collected the weapons from the Shami tree and defeated the Kauravas who

attempted to steal the cattle of King Virata. Since that day, shami trees and weapons have been worshiped on the ninth day of Navaratri, which symbolises this particular incident in the Mahabharata.

Another legend commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura, the demon king after a nine-day long battle, and also marks the end of Durga Puja celebrations.

Significance of Vijayadashami
Vijayadashami signifies enlightenment and marks the end of the Maha Navaratri or the 9 days of Durga Puja.  Hindus celebrate this festival worldwide by observing social gatherings and offering sweets and gifts to relatives, friends and neighbours.
Celebration of Vijayadashami in different parts of India 
In , the day of Vijayadashami is the one when Goddess Durga is believed
West Bengal to retreat to Kailash. This occasion is celebrated despondently amidst Bengal with ‘Sindur Khela’,  The idol is immersed in the River Ganga on this day and the festivities of greeting each other and distributing sweets begin.

Goddess Saraswati,In the 14th century Vijaynagar Empire, the festival of Vijayadashami played a historical role and was known as Mahanavami. It is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu Goddess of knowledge, learning, music and arts.
In Gujarat, both Goddess Durga and Lord Rama are revered for their victory over evil. Fasting and prayers at temples are common. Dandiya Raas and Garba are a part of the festivities through the night.
