Rohini Devasher, Indian Painter

Rohini Devasher is an accomplished Indian contemporary artist. Her works of art mainly focuses on observing, recording, and re-imagining objects and spaces that exist at the interface between science, nature, perception, culture and production.

A trained painter and print maker, Rohini Devasher is an accomplished Indian contemporary artist. Other than being artistic, Rohini is also involved in a variety of media work including sound, video, prints and large site specific drawings.

Early Life of Rohini Devasher
Born on 1978 in New Delhi, Rohini Devasher received her MA in printmaking from the Winchester School of Art in the UK and her BFA in Painting from the College of Art in New Delhi.

Career of Rohini Devasher
Prior to her MA in UK, Rohini worked at the India Habitat Centre and returned to work at the Khoj International Artists’ Association between 2005 and 2010.

Rohini has crafted images of the metamorphosis of dragonflies, and of trees illuminated against a pitch black background. In her large scale, mixed media works on paper, she presents microbes or chrysalises in intricate, delicate detail.



She once even chose to create fictive landscapes up north in Ladakh, at the site of the Indian Astronomical Observatory (IAO) in Hanle, one of the world’s highest sites for optical, infrared and gamma ray telescopes, that draws astronomers as much for the severe terrain as for the dramatic skies.


Awards of Rohini Devasher
Known to be the 2014 Forbes Contemporary Artist of the Year, Rohini Devasher was also the recipient of the Inlaks Fine Arts Award twice in the years 2007 and 2008.

Maratha Empire

Maratha Empire rose to imperial supremacy during the regime of the Great king Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhonsle who made Raigad his royal capital after defeating the Mughals and Bijapur Sultanate.

Shivaji Bhonsle was capable of establishing himself as the leader of the Hindu Maratha kingdom after he became victorious against Aurangzeb and the Adil Shahi Dynasty of Bijapur during 1674. Shivaji's grandson Shahu was the king till 1749 followed by the very first Peshwa who was appointed as the head of government. However, the Peshwas lost against the Afghans at the Third Battle of Panipat.

Shahuji: Shahuji revolted against the rule of his aunt Tarabai and her son. He became the new ruler of Maratha Empire. This instigated the formation of Kolhapur and Satara during 1707.

Peshwa Baji Rao I: Baji Rao I or Baji Rao Vishwanath (Bhat) Deshmukh was confirmed as the Peshwa in April 1720 after the death of Balaji Vishwanath by Chhatrapati Shahu and worked as an impressive general for Shahuji.

Vinita Dasgupta, Indian Painter

Vinita Dasgupta is an upcoming contemporary Indian Painter, whose name stands at par with that of the other talented artists of India. She is considered as one of the most expensive and an important woman painters of India. She is sometimes known as ‘The Story Teller’.

Vinita Dasgupta was a recipient of the Art for Social Change Award by the UN Population Fund, New Delhi in 2008.

Early Life of Vinita Dasgupta
Vinita Dasgupta was born on 30 April, 1983 to a Bengali family. In 1998 her family moved to New Delhi for higher studies, where she began learning painting and fashion designing professionally.

Specialization of Vinita Dasgupta
Vinita Dasgupta weaves layers, colours, shapes and textures into her artworks, to softly bring out balance and harmony. The metaphors of her arts are mostly inspired by the natural world, traditional culture as well as pop art and the layers of life.
