Gemstones

GemstonesGemstones are defined as organic materials, mineral or rock that are used for several purposes like Astrologyjewelleries and ornamentations. Gemstones are also known as crystalline rock. Gemstones appear like a piece of attractive mineral. Gemstones like pearl or opals are commonly styled into art or jewellery and they do not require any sort of polishing or cuts. On the other hand, Diamond is a type of gem that needs proper cutting as well as polishing for making its true beauty visible. Gemstones are highly prized and are known for their beauty, durability and rarity.

Origin of Gemstones
The origin of gemstones is from deep beneath the earth, while the others are formed from hot fluids and other chemical components. The gemstones that are formed deep beneath the earth ultimately brought to the surface by explosions of molten rocks. Some stones are also crystallised slowly from hot fluids and gases as they cooled and solidified eventually. These stones are formed far below the surface of the earth. Others stones are formed from liquids that are filtered into crack and pockets in the rock. Some stones are formed when rocks were heated and pressurised by the natural earth movements, and then again formed as a new, different mineral altogether.

Characteristics of Gemstones
The characteristics of gemstones can be explained by the Gemmologists. Gems are characterised by means of their refractive index, specific gravity, hardness, dispersion, lustre, etc. They may exhibit pleochroism or double refraction. Gemstones may also have a distinctive absorption spectrum and luminescence.

GemstonesThe colours of gemstones have a wide range of variations. The actual colour of a gemstone is because of the reflective and absorptive properties of any elements or impurities within the precious stone.

Types of Gemstones
There are various types of gemstones present. All the gemstones are basically differentiated in two distinct groups of precious and semi-precious stones. Diamonds have also been considered as the most valuable of such stones. Other precious gemstones are rubyemeraldstopazzircon and sapphires used in a wide range of purposes. Amethystopalaquamarinejadeturquoisegarnetagateonyxapis lazuli and malachite are some of the popular semi-precious stones.

Numerology in India

Numerology in IndiaNumerology is the study of relation between human beings and numbers. According to numerology each number acquires the sensations of a particular planet and accordingly each alphabet has the vibration of a particular number. These numbers reveals some of the behaviour traits, emotional reactions, talents, strengths and obstacles of a person. It has also been mentioned that numerology discloses the traits of human beings that exist in the human sub-conscious mind.

Concept of Numerology
Numerology is based on the concept that each number represents the vibrations of a particular planet and each alphabet corresponds to the vibration of a particular number. Right from the numbers influencing the core basis of the personality (birth date), or a changeable but important influence in a person’s life (name), numbers act as compelling forces in human destinies.

History of Numerology
Numerology in India is also known as ‘Vedic Numerology’ because it emerged in the era of the Vedas, some of the oldest and most sacred Indo-Aryan literature. Indian Vedic numerology is based on the idea that everything in this material word is influenced by one or more of the nine planets.

Process to Determine Numerology
Numerology in IndiaThe process of numerology is simple and effective. Like for instance, if a person was born on 23rd July, 1978. The core birth date will be 23. Thus, it can be written as - 2 +3 = 5. Five is the basic number with the vibrations of Mercury. This person’s personality will be coloured by the qualities bestowed by this number. Anyone born on 5th, 14th and 23rd of any month will have the basic number 5. For further conclusions, the entire birth date will be added. It is as follows -

23/ 07/1978
2 + 3+ 7+ 1+ 9+ 7 + 8 = 37
3 + 7 = 10
1 + 0 = 1

Number 1 possesses the strong vibrations of Sun. Thus, the person is also coloured to an extent by the characteristics of number 1.

Vedic Astrology

Vedic AstrologyVedic Astrology is an ancient Indian science explaining movements of the planet and its positions with regards to time and effect on all entities on earth. Astrology is a Vedanga - a part of Vedas. Understanding of astrology was in its infancy in the Vedic period. It included gathering knowledge on the planets, their movements and their location. Earlier Vedic astrology was only based on the planetary movements but later on it included zodiac signs also.

There are 27 constellations made up of 12 zodiac signs, 9 planets and 12 houses. Depending on when a person is born, the 12 signs are distributed among the 12 houses and 9 planets are placed in various houses. The visual representation of the signs and planets is called a horoscope chart. Vedic Astrology is inferring the meaning of these arrangements.

Types of Vedic Astrology
Vedic Astrology (Jyotisha) has Siddhanta, Samhita and Hora as its three main branches:

  • Siddhanta: Siddhanta implies Astronomy and its application to astrology. It provides planetary calculations from the beginning of Creation. Siddhanta is used only for creating Tantra and Karana texts for practical purposes.

  • Samhita: Samhita refers to ordinary astrology. It predicts important events related to countries such as political events, war, earthquakes, meteorology, financial positions, election, Vastu Shastra and so on.

  • Hora: Hora covers predictive astrology. It has predictions based on individual horoscope. It contains selection of favourable time to start an activity to get maximum fulfilment.

    Nine Planets in Astrology

Nine Planets in Astrology, AstrologyNine Planets in Astrology, according to Vedas, are known as ‘Nava-Graha’. These planets exist in the entire sphere of celestial and astrological studies. In Astrology, Planets are the heavenly bodies, whose movements are tracked by keeping Earth as the central point; the heavenly objects casting their influence on earth, nature and its inhabitants to a great degree. Although, technically Sun and Moon are not planets, and Rahu and Ketu are just lunar nodes, still they are essentially referred as planets according to the Hindu astrology.

Each planet has a specific influence in astrology and governs a certain area of one’s personality or approach to life. For example, Mercury relates to the mental outlook; Venus governs the love nature. It is the placement of these planets in the various zodiac signs that determines how one expresses the different facets of their personality.

The Nine planets in Vedic astrology are of prime importance to Indian astrologers. Each of the nine planets, which are also known as ‘Nava-Graha’, is discussed below:

    Surya or Sun
Sun bestows willpower, energy and fortune to each and every individual, enabling them to live life to its grandest level. Right from the looks of a being, to his personality, wisdom and achievements, Sun or Surya has the dominant role to play. Sun provides with the physical, as well as psychological well being of a person. Its benevolence is received by kings, leaders, politicians, artists, jewellers, gemmologists, actors, alike.

    Chandra or Moon
Moon or Chandra is responsible for fertility, growth, long distance travel, mental peace, memory, relation with mother and childbirth. An excellent and powerful moon provides good emotional strength and harmonious life. A weak moon can cause mental anxiety, emotional disturbance and tough relations with mother and people all around.

    Brihaspati or Jupiter
Brihaspati is known as the planet of luck and is responsible for all the success, fortune, intellect and religious aspects of lives. Jupiter or Brihaspati signifies high ambitions, knowledge and accomplishments. Consequently, it is a prominent planet in the charts of successful priestsreligious leaders, politicians and people pursuing deep knowledge.

    Nakshatras in Astrology

Nakshatras in AstrologyNakshatras in Astrology are the 27 constellations forming a belt, against backdrop of which the zodiacs are considered. Geographically, these Nakshatras are 300 to 400 light years away from earth. Nakshatras in Astrology have exclusive system of prediction which is based on the position of the moon in a given constellation in Vedic Astrology.

Since ancient times, the Moon was looked for calculating time and connecting to the stars. In the Vedic system of Astrology, the 27 constellations are the key to understanding celestial influences on the planet. These 27 constellations are actually the 27 Nakshatras. Vedic or Hindu astrology offers a most powerful analytical technique which is based on the Nakshatra of a person at the time of birth. The zodiac is divided into 12 signs and 27 constellations. Each covers 13 degrees and 20 minutes of the zodiac. Each Nakshatra is defined as the head of a specific group of stars.

    Etymology of Nakshatras
The term "Nakshatra" means ‘Sky Map’ due to ‘naks’ meaning ‘sky’ and ‘kshetra’ meaning ‘region’. Another translation is derived by using a different analysis; it says ‘Naksha’ is ‘map’ and ‘Tara’ is ‘star’ and so ‘Nakshatra’ means ‘Star Map’. Both these meanings clearly bring out the significance of the 27 Nakshatras and constellations. ‘Nakshatras’ is the name that is given to the constellations or mansions of the Moon, as the Moon resides in each of these constellations for one day.

    Concept of Nakshatras
In Vedic astrology, Nakshatras are considered to be essential. The system of constellations is very ancient and dated back about more than 5,000 years. Its reference is found in the ancient Vedic scriptures. The concept of Nakshatra is known to give more accurate results. Nakshatras are also considered the backbone of astrology and interestingly they are considered throughout the astrological analysis. According to the saints, Nakshatras in Astrology represent the abodes into which the fruits of labour or Karma is transferred and stored. Thus, Nakshatras distribute the outgrowth of Karma according to Hindu scriptures.

    Mythological Significance of Nakshatras
Several interesting legends are associated with Nakshatras in Astrology. As per the Hindu mythology, Chandra or Moon had married all 27 daughters of King Daksha, who are the star constellations in the sky. He used to spend more time with his beloved queen Rohini and because of this reason his other wives complained to their father. In spite of the repeated interference of King Daksha, Moon did not change his habit. Finally the king lost his cool and cursed the Moon. As a result, the size of Moon started diminishing. All the gods intervened and requested the king to withdraw the curse. King Daksha then assured that if Moon visits all his wives, he would recover his lost strength for half a month. Thus, this is stated as the reason why Moon visits all the 27 constellations during a month.

    Classification of Nakshatras
Nakshatras are classified in several ways and the classification is made according to basic attribute. The primary motivation is Kama - sensual desires; Artha - material desires; Dharma - living life based on spiritual principles; Moksha - liberation from birth and death, sex, caste, species and so on. They are primarily revealed by their presiding deities, ruling planets and their symbolic form.

    Palmistry, Astrology

Palmistry, Astrology Palmistry or ‘Hasta Rekha Vigyan’ is the most popular branch of Samudrik Shastra. The original Samudrik Hasta Rekha embodies Vedic philosophy within itself in a coalition with all the cosmic forces available. Up to 153 lines are recognized and studied well in the palm. A more spiritual insight in the readings is done by defining and studying the Atma Rekha.

    Basics of Palmistry
The art of analyzing the Palm as a blueprint of a person’s past, present, future, karmas and personality and life issues originated in the ancient mystique land of India. The hands of every individual are the constant recipients of the continuous flow of electrical impulses from the brain. The coordination between the conscious and subconscious mind with that of the hands is almost miraculous. The nerve endings and energy flow in the palm is responsible for etching out the presence of lines and mounts on them. Studying these lines and other signs to know the details about a person comes under the practice of palmistry. Every sign in the palm foretells something about the characteristic, talents, strengths etc. of a person. Since the free will of the person is the most important cosmic force of all, palm lines and signs are changeable through the changing circumstances in human life.

    Features of Palmistry
Palmistry commences with the obvious things and goes forward with countless elaborate affairs followed by proper judgment and elucidation that lead to the ultimate foretelling of an individual. The hands of individuals are reckoned as active and passive hands. In Palmistry, the passive hands are of great importance as it has been considered that the passive hands transmit innate human characteristics and the active hand entails the ‘karma’ of the individuals. Even as per Vedic Palmistry, the passive hands convey the karmic imprint of a person or the past life of a person. The study of Palmistry is dependent on reading the mounts of the palm, the lines in the palms, and the structure of fingers.

    Techniques of Palmistry
In palmistry, the reader usually starts reading the dominant hand of the person which is the hand an individual uses the most. It is believed that this hand represents the conscious mind which the other one signifies subconscious mind. However, according to some traditions, the other hand is believed to carry hereditary or family traits. Some also believe that it conveys information about past life. The choice of hand depends entirely on the instinct and experience of the practitioner. The left hand is generally controlled by the right brain and is believed to reflect the inner person, the lateral thinking and the natural self. On the other hand, the right brain is controlled by the left brain and is thus indicative of the outer person, the influence of experience, education and social environment and linear thinking.
