History of Indian Cricket

India started playing Cricket way back in 1721 unofficially but was granted the official test status in 1932. They played their first test cricket match from 25th June to 28th June in the year 1932 against England at Lords' in London. India was lead by C.K. Nayuduat that time. India was considered a weak team in the Cricketing Circuit for long time but Indian team changed from 1950s and is a major force to reckon with today.

Indian Cricket in 20th Century
After its initiation, Cricket started gaining popularity among the Indian people within a short period of time. The middle and last half of the 19th century was an important period in the history of Indian Cricket, as the game spread its reach in almost all the parts of India during that period.

The First Test Match was played in 1932. Though India did not have a national cricket team during the early 1900s, a few Indian great cricketers of that era did represent the England cricket team. Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Duleep Singhji were the prominent ones among them.

Indian Cricket during 1950s
After Independence, a big push came in the history of Indian Cricket, when India got its first ever Test series win against the neighbouring Asian counterpart and archrivals Pakistan, in 1952. The series saw brilliant and extraordinary performances from some of the greatest Indian Cricket players like Polly UmrigarVijay Manjrekar and S.M. Gupte.

Indian Cricket During 1960s

Indian Cricket During 1960sIndian cricket team during 1960s did get some significant successes that include some wonderful individual performances like the world record opening partnership of 413 runs between Pankaj Roy and Vinoo Mankad against New Zealand in 1955. The world record stood tall till the first half of this year, when the South African opening pair, Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie broke it. Mankad-Roy's partnership stood tall for as long as 53 years and the new record of 415 runs was made by Smith-McKenzie, in March, 2008, against Bangladesh. Some other brilliant performance in this decade was Subhash Gupte's leg spin magic against the West Indies in West Indies in 1952-53 and also the Jasu Patel's stand-out performance against Richie Benaud's Australians in 1958-59. Overall, this decade witnessed some of the remarkable moments in the history of Indian cricket.

While making the world record opening partnership of 413 runs for India, the great batsmen, Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy batted throughout the entire first day of the Test against New Zealand, which itself was a record. The partnership was really a valuable one for India, as it helped India clinch a huge an innings and 109-run victory in the fifth and final Test against New Zealand at home in 1955. They surpassed the previous world record of 359 runs, made by England's Len Hutton and Cyril Washbrook against South Africa in 1948-49. They showed a lot of grit and determination and batted out some hostile spells of bowling from the famous New Zealand bowlers like Cave and Hayes. Mankad eventually got out for 231 runs, that was the highest individual score by an Indian till then and the score of Roy was 173 runs. Roy also scored another two centuries in the same series and became one of the star players for India in its second home series win.

The Indian team presented some more glorious and spectacular moments for the Indian cricket enthusiasts in the 1960s, as they established themselves a team to reckon with on sub continental soil with consistent performances at home. The team first became successful to win a Test series against the England team for the first time in its history in 1961-62. It was considered as a sweet revenge, as the England team did white-washed the Indian team in its previous tour of England, in 1959. India won the four match series in 1961-62 by 1-0, by winning the last match, after drawing the first three.

Blind Cricket, Indian Sport

Blind Cricket, Indian SportBlind cricket in India is a version of the sport of cricket adapted for blind cricketers. It is for those who are blind and have a great knack in playing cricket.

Blind cricket is for those who are also partially-sighted players. It has been governed by the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) since 1996. So far, four Blind World Cups have been held in New Delhi in the year 1998, Chennai in the year 2002 and Islamabad, Pakistan in the year 2006. In 2012, the first Blind World Cup Twenty 20 was held in Bengaluru. The blind cricket relies on common use of the 'sweep shot', in order to provide maximum chance of the bat hitting the ball.

History of Blind Cricket
Blind Cricket, Indian SportBlind cricket was invented in Melbourne in the year 1922 by two blind factory workers who improvised the game using a tin can containing rocks. The Victorian Blind Cricket Association was founded shortly after, in the year 1922, and the first sports ground and clubhouse for blind cricket was built at Kooyong, Melbourne in the year 1928. It was the world’s first Test Cricket match for the Blind was played which was played between Pakistan and South Africa in which Pakistan Cricket Team defeated South Africa Cricket Team by 94 runs.

Blind Cricket World Cup
South Africa Cricket team won first Blind Cricket World Cup in the year 1998 by defeating Pakistan Cricket team in the finals, while Pakistan consecutively won next two Blind Cricket World Cup (BCWC) defeating South Africa and India in the finals in the year 2002 and 2006. In the year 2014, the Blind Cricket World Cup championship was won by Indian Cricket team defeating the two time winner Pakistan Cricket team.

Rules of Playing in Blind Cricket
The WBCC International playing rules are classified in 25 classes. Each class has single or multiple clauses. The rules of blind cricket are based on the standard Laws of Cricket with some essential modifications.Blind Cricket, Indian Sport

Equipments in Blind Cricket
In terms of playing equipment, the major adaptation is the ball, which is significantly larger than a standard cricket ball and filled with ball bearings. The size of the ball allows partially sighted players to see the ball and the contents allow blind players to hear it. The wicket (stumps) is also larger, to allow partially sighted players to see and blind players to touch it in order to correctly orient themselves when batting or bowling.

World Cup Cricket and India

World Cup Cricket and IndiaWorld Cup Cricket since its inception in the year 1975 includes India as one of its participant teams .As the biggest tournament of One-Day international format, the World Cup Cricket was first held in the year 1975 in England. Since then, India has participated in all the editions of the tournament and has also become the winner in two occasions, in 1983 and in 2011. India in World Cup Cricket has always shown great performances and was part of some of the greatest matches in World Cup history.

World Cup Cricket, 1975
In the inaugural edition of the World Cup Cricket in 1975, India was placed along with the teams like England, New Zealand and East Africa in a group. India played its first match in World Cup against England and miserably lost the match by a huge margin of 202 runs. In the next match, it comfortably defeated the East Africa side by a huge margin of 10 wickets. However, as it failed to beat New Zealand in its last group match, it could not enter into the next round of the tournament. That was the end of India's campaign in the World Cup Cricket, 1975.

World Cup Cricket, 1979
In the second edition of World Cup Cricket, 1979 that was also held in England, India put on a worse performance. India was placed in a group, along with the defending champions, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. India once again started the tournament in a disastrous manner, as it lost its first match against West Indies by a huge margin of 9 wickets. India once again lost to the New Zealand team in the second match by a huge margin of 8 wickets. India then faced the biggest humiliation in its last group match against Sri Lanka, the then minnows of World Cricket. It failed to achieve an easy target of 238 runs set by Sri Lanka and eventually lost the match. The World Cup Cricket, 1979 is considered as the worst World Cup for India.

World Cup Cricket, 1983
However, the scenario changed entirely in the World Cup Cricket, 1983 and India played great Cricket in that tournament. India started the tournament in a group comprising the other teams like Zimbabwe, West Indies and Australia. India stunned everyone by beating the formidable West Indies team by 34 runs in its opening match and then beat the weaker team Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in the second match. India won 4 of its group matches in the tournament, while losing two. In the knock-out level, India beat the England team in the Semi-Final by a margin of 6 wickets and went on to meet West Indies in the Final. The Final of World Cup Cricket, 1983 is considered as a classic One-Day match. After being bowled out for a mere 183 runs, India successfully restricted the West Indies team to only 140 and thus clinched the coveted championship title in the World Cup Cricket, 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev.

World Cup Cricket, 1987
World Cup Cricket moved out of England for the first time in 1987, with India and Pakistan co-hosting this edition of the World Cup. Indian Cricket Team was billed pre-tournament favourites and was widely expected to defend their title successfully in familiar conditions. India's team for the World Cup did not have some important members of the World Cup-winning squad of 1983, notably Mohinder Amarnath, Syed Kirmani, Madan Lal, Yashpal Sharma and Sandeep Patil, but all-rounder Kapil Dev once again led the side, which included world-class batsmen Sunil Gavaskar, who was to retire from all forms of cricket after the tournament. Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Dilip Vengsarkar, Ravi Shastri, Mohammed Azharuddin and Kapil Dev are on other side. The bowling too was decent enough, with Kapil Dev leading the attack, supported by Ravi Shastri, Maninder Singh, Manoj Prabhakar, Chetan Sharma and Roger Binny.

The journey of India in World Cup Cricket did never see such a huge success in the following editions and failed to cross the Semi-Finals in most of the occasions.

World Cup Cricket, 1992
World Cup Cricket and IndiaThe 1992 World Cup ended unsuccessfully. It was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, despite playing a Test series in Australia just prior to the World Cup. The Indian team for the World Cup had a good batting line up consisting of captain Mohammed Azharuddin, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, all rounders Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri, Sanjay Manjrekar and a rising talent in Sachin Tendulkar. The bowling wasn't too strong though. Kapil Dev led the bowling line up, which also included Ravi Shastri, Manoj Prabhakar and Venkatapathy Raju. A new format was introduced for the 1992 World Cup, with the group format being scrapped in favour of a round-robin format, where each team would play all the other 8 teams in the tournament once, with the top 4 teams at the end of the Round-Robin stage progressing to the semifinals. It was also the first Cricket World Cup played with coloured jerseys and which had day-night matches.

World Cup Cricket, 1996
India was the co-host of the 1996 Cricket World Cup along with Pakistan and Sri Lanka and was expected to perform well at home. Their batting was their strongest point, with Sachin Tendulkar, Captain Mohammed Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sanjay Manjrekar together forming the strongest batting line-up in the tournament. While the bowling was a bit suspect, the team had a decent set of bowlers who were good at home conditions in Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Manoj Prabhakar and Venkatapathy Raju.
